The social network Twitter is a rapidly growing site with people increasingly using Twitter for business as well as personal purposes. It allows you to communicate and stay connected to your contacts worldwide by regularly updating them on what you are doing, making announcements and inserting links to useful articles on your website. Twitter is free to join.
Once you have created an account you can post up Twitter messages (otherwise known as ‘tweets’) of up to 140 characters in length. It is these messages that allow you to generate interest with your contacts and others on the Twitter network.
The idea is that you to build up a network of followers i.e. people who are reading your updates and also follow others, whether it is individuals or organisations, who may be of interest to you. If you follow others then they are likely to reciprocate and follow you in return.
