Business Network International ( BNI )

Business Network International or BNI was founded in 1985 by Dr Ivan Misner and is now the largest off-line business networking organisation in the world and has over 100,000 members across the globe.

Business Network International markets itself as a ‘referral organisation’ with its main aim being to generate referrals for its members by providing a ‘positive, supportive, and structured environment for men and women to further their business through word-of-mouth marketing.’

BNI only allows one person from each trade or profession to join each of its 5,000 plus groups or ‘chapters.’

Meetings which are run on a weekly basis follow a set structure. This includes an opportunity for members and visitors to give 60 seconds about their business, a presentation by a member of the group and a section in the meeting for passing referrals to each other.

Members are expected to contribute by passing referrals and bringing guests to meetings and if members do not meet certain criteria for attendance and the contributions they bring to the table then they their membership may be discontinued.

BNI is a membership organisation with annual and 2 yearly membership options.
