Computer Networking Is Not Business Networking

Computer networking is a term totally unrelated to business networking but deserves a mention here if only to explain what it means and to ensure when you are talking about business networking you are not misunderstood (as I have been) by those who only are aware of networking in the context of computers.

What is a computer network?

It is basically an interconnection of a group of computers.

Computer Network Many businesses which have a number of computer users will have their computers connected so information can be shared between them. There are different types of network depending on where the computers in the network are situated e.g. Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN) to name just two and there are different ways of physically connecting them.

So what’s the point? It's easy to get at cross purposes particularly during first introductions so do think about what you are communicating when you are talking about business networking because if your contact is thinking about computers you’ll be talking a completely different language!
